Creatures from fairies tales  2008

In science fiction, Elfs are semi divines beings, with long life, magic powers and pointed and curved ears.  The cat on the pictures seems to bring these creatures from fairies tale to the reality.  It started to be developed in less than 3 years, through matings among individuals of the American Curl (cat breed with ears curved backwards) and Sphynx (characterized by the absence of coat).  “The purpose was that the Elf inherited  these two characteristics and presented unique look: Bald and with ears curved backwards in a Elf style”, tells the North American Karen Nelson, that wrote the Standard for the breed.  It also intended to obtain a sociable, affectionate and active behavior.  “The Elf is full of energy and is docile and outgoing”, says Kristen Leedom, from United States, the other one engaged in the improvement of the breed.  The adult Elf should have a size from medium to large (weight from 3,6 to 6,8 kgs).  Thin and short hairs can be present in some regions, as feet, ears, muzzle, and tail.  The estimation is that the population of this new cat to  be around only ten individuals, spread in only five catteries.  All of them in the United States.  The breeder Karen Nelson, House of Falmari Cattery can be contacted through e-mail Falmari@elfcats.com or website www.ElfCats.com.
